Ewan McGregor Is Already Game For Christopher Robin 2
Ewan McGregor isn't really a sequel guy. Sure, he was a big part of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and last year reprised his role as Renton in Danny Boyle's T2: Trainspotting, but follow-ups traditionally aren't his thing. That could certainly change in the future if the right script came around, however, and one perfect example could be Christopher Robin - as McGregor confirmed he would be more than happy to play the titular role again. Said the actor,
Totally ready for the sequel. It was never mentioned when we shot it [but] I'd be happy to do it again. I'd be up for it. I'll sign on the dotted line right now.
Christopher Robin is only a few weeks old at the domestic box office, but it seems that Ewan McGregor is looking optimistically into the future. He is continuing to do press for the movie, and it was while sitting down with South Afrian outlet IOL that he discussed sequel possibilities. He was asked about whether or not he would be game for a Christopher Robin 2, and while it sounds like there wasn't exactly a ton of conversation about it in the making of the first feature, hanging out with Winnie The Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and the rest of the gang is something that McGregor is game to do.
Of course, Ewan McGregor's willingness to be a part of a Christopher Robin 2 is only a part of the equation - and, frankly, not a major one. Much more important is fan demand and ticket sales - and on that front it's hard to say exactly at this point if there's a ton of sequel potential here. The film hasn't exactly been one of Disney's biggest success stories of the year... but then again we're talking about the company that has put out both Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War in the last six months. To date the moving has made a respectable $66.8 million here at home, with foreign markets contributing enough to bump the worldwide total to $89.9 million. At this point that probably means that it has managed to make its budget back before marketing, but the performance may not be strong enough to fully support sequel talks.
The family film has received a warm reception since it came out, grabbing an "A" on CinemaScore, and winning over most critics, but the future possibilities for Christopher Robin 2 remain a bit murky. That being said, if Disney does decide to pull the trigger on a follow-up, at the very least they can feel comfortable knowing that they probably won't have to recast the franchise's biggest attached name and eponymous star. This may be the last we hear about the potential project, but if not, you can be sure that you'll be able to find the newest details here on CinemaBlend.
