Making her third leap to the big screen, courtesy of a cinematic reboot, Lara Croft is back in action and a Tomb Raider will rise! But is this would-be blockbuster a true successor to the throne, or is it back to the drawing board for the Croft legacy, and video game films overall? Typically, a film adapted from a best selling game would be ripe for critical panning, as we've seen with such films as the Resident Evil franchise. That bit of history in mind, it seems like the new Tomb Raider has made a home on the more generous side of the critical scale. However, in our official review on the film, our Sean O'Connell still walked away from the film with some reservations. In particular, his opinion of the film came down to the following:
For all of its dedication to breathing life into the game, the movie Tomb Raider doesn't establish its own sense of adventure, or dial into a genuine rush or tingle that comes with watching an action movie.
