Could Thor: Ragnarok's Skurge Return? Here's What Karl Urban Says

Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok introduced an army of awesome new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Badasses like Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) were clear standouts, but one other fan-favorite addition to the ensemble was Karl Urban's Skurge. The Asgardian executioner went out in a blaze of glory in Ragnarok's climactic battle, but some fans have wondered if it would be possible to see Urban come back for another movie. Now it sounds like that's something that Urban might interested in as well, as the Dredd star opened up in a recent interview with CinemaBlend for his new film Bent and explained that he would reprise his role as Skurge, at least if the opportunity presented itself. Per Urban:

If the opportunity arose. I had a great time working with the gang over at Marvel and if they find a way to incorporate the character of Skurge in some future installment I'd love to come back and have the opportunity to do more of that because it was a hell of a lot of fun.

Karl Urban very clearly had a quite a bit of fun playing Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok. He was arguably one of the funniest parts of the entire film, which is saying something when we consider the fact that Ragnarok stands out as one of Marvel's funniest movies to date. He doesn't know about a plan to bring Skurge back, but if Marvel comes up with an idea, he seems interested in getting on board.

The possibility of Skurge coming back raises questions about how something like that could even happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, the character very clearly bites the dust when he gathers his courage and leaps into action during the final battle against Hela's army. However, in another interview with Comicbook.com, Karl Urban addressed the possibility of returning to the Marvel universe in a future project by telling a story that focuses on Skurge in "the afterlife," which is something that the comics touched on when he became a member of The Grandmaster's Legion of the Unliving team.

Of course, none of this means anything until Marvel decides what to do with Skurge. The folks at Marvel Studios could bring him back to fill out the Asgardian ranks if Chris Hemsworth walks away at the end of his contract, or they could opt to leave Skurge with his Ragnarok arc and heroic death.

Only time will tell if Skurge will actually return for another outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Until we learn more, you can check out Thor's latest adventure when Avengers: Infinity War premieres in theaters on April 27. As for Karl Urban, you can catch his new film Bent in select theaters and on-demand right now!

Sicario: Day Of The Soldado's Director Doesn't Want To Make Sicario 3

The Sicario brand has become a full-fledged franchise with the debut of Stefano Sollima's Sicario: Day of the Soldado and the overall reaction to the intense sequel seems relatively positive. Sollima had the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of Denis Villeneuve, but he has pulled it off by delivering a satisfying sequel that feels fresh and new. With all of that said, Sollima apparently isn't interested in coming back for a third Sicario movie, as he feels that these movies need different directors to bring different styles to each installment. In a recent interview, the director explained:

Every movie in these series needs to be a standalone that stays in the same world. I'd love to watch another chapter of 'Sicario,' but it should be from a different director who has their own specific style. You shouldn't have more than one film from the same director. Then it would be too much like a real franchise.

The Sicario world is not a series like Captain America or The Dark Knight series, in which filmmakers like The Russo brothers or Christopher Nolan put their own signature spins on the characters. As Stefano Sollima explained in his recent interview with Variety, the series should feel different from movie to movie as new filmmakers come in to direct off of the scripts written by Taylor Sheridan -- who is continuing a hot streak off of other films like Hell or High Water and Wind River.

This is something that other members of the Sicario universe have already championed in the development of Sicario: Day of the Soldado. Specifically, Josh Brolin opened up to CinemaBlend in an interview ahead of the film's release and noted that he wanted Day of the Soldado to feel like a different beast when compared to the movie that preceded it. Bringing Stefano Sollima into the equation played a major role in achieving that goal, and it sounds like Sollima himself wants that to continue by handing off the series to another filmmaker in its next installment.

Besides, it's also worth noting that Stefano Sollima has other work that he needs to focus on at the moment. In addition to his recent work on Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the director is also in the process of developing a film adaptation of the Call of Duty video game series. Working on Day of the Soldado almost certainly helped prepare the Italian filmmaker for that kind of endeavor, but now he wants to see what someone else can do with the franchise that he helped to continue.

Dwayne Johnson Thanks Fans For Supporting The Fast And Furious Spinoff

The Fast and Furious spinoff is finally starting to come together over at Universal, and Dwayne Johnson recently did what Dwayne Johnson does best: Coming together on social to share a candid shot of him taking notes on the script for Hobbs and Shaw while also thanking the fans for sticking around while the franchise tries something new. We haven't heard much about what the spinoff will be about so far. Some of what Dwayne Johnson mentions is repeat info, like the fact that Chris Morgan is writing the movie. Still, along with thanking the fans for sticking with the franchise, he also mentions we'll be hearing more about additional casting on Hobbs and Shaw soon. Obviously Johnson isn't going to be the person to bash on a movie he's starring in, but from what he's been saying, the movie might have a different "tone" than what we've come to expect from a Fast and Furious flick, as well.

As for the comments thanking the fans, those are coming a few months after The Fast and Furious spinoff was announced. At the time we learned about the spinoff, we also learned the Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham starrer would be pushing back the release of the upcoming ninth movie starring the original cast. This was not as smooth of a transition as it could have been, as longtime series actor Tyrese Gibson ranted on social media about how Johnson specifically screwed the fast family over when signing on for a spinoff, noting at the time that he and the rest of the cast "don't fly solo."

It got so bad that Vin Diesel---who notoriously didn't get along with The Rock on set---had to come in and do damage control, saying,

I know there has been a lot of speculation as to why the Fast 9 release date was pushed... but it would be unfair to say it is anyone's fault. As we plot the course to expand the Fast & Furious universe, one must be mindful to take stock of the roads we took to get here. The pillars of authenticity, family and most importantly, our loyal fan's perspective has been instrumental in procuring success.

That's a lot of drama for a movie that hasn't even gone into production, yet. Somehow, Jason Statham has managed to stay out of this whole thing, and Dwayne Johnson genuinely seems excited about moving forward with the new Hobbs and Shaw premise. Plus, we've gotten eight Fast and Furious movies so far -- many of them great. Still, it should be nice just to switch gears and try something new for once. Hopefully, the fans will stick around to check it out.

David Leitch is directing the new movie, and Hobbs and Shaw is currently expected to hit theaters on July 26, 2019. Fast and Furious 9 will then hit theaters the next year, on April 10, 2020. For now, be sure to take a look at everything we know about the upcoming film.
