New Mary Poppins Returns Image Teases An Awesome Musical Number

It's almost come time to continue the magical journey of Mary Poppins and the Banks family, with the holiday season's upcoming release of Mary Poppins Returns. Disney has been going down a long list of their classic films and remaking them, but director Rob Marshall insists this film isn't simply that. The sequel will resume 25 years after the events of the 1964 classic, as Mary Poppins, played by the delightful Emily Blunt, swings back down to Cherry Tree Lane to help bring optimism back into the Banks family's lives. Can't wait for Mary Poppins Returns? Here's a spoonful of sugar that might hold you over temporarily -- a brand new exclusive photo from the movie has danced on over to Twitter.

The sequel takes place in the 1930s with Jane (played by Emily Mortimer) and Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) now as adults. After Michael, who has three children of his own, deals with a personal loss this musical number will no doubt cheer him up. The image has Mary Poppins being held up by two jolly men in caps, with a few more dancing in the background on lamp posts. The teaser for the upcoming release is in the midst of a musical number called "Trip a Little Light Fantastic," according to Entertainment Weekly, which will have Emily Blunt as Poppins and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, dancing through the streets of London.

From the looks of the image, the performance of the new song will be reminiscent of "Step in Time" from the 1964 classic, where Bert's chimney sweep gang dance up and down rooftops with Mary and the Banks children in the elaborate number. But Jack is a lamplighter, so his friends are taking to lamp posts instead to make it a new dance number. Maybe Jane and Michael will accompany Mary Poppins and Jack for this glowing scene, to help them cheer up and learn a few more lessons from the magical nanny.

Mary Poppins Returns looks to be a welcome new Disney entry to follow the classic film starring Julie Andrews. A look at the beautiful teaser trailer brings an instant smile on the faces of those who grew up with the movie that has stood the test of time. The upcoming movie is staying with the gleeful tone of the first movie with callbacks to the original, with even Dick Van Dyke onboard. An impressive supporting cast including Meryl Streep as Topsy Turvy-Poppins and Angela Lansbury as Balloon Lady.

Songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman penned the new soundtrack of music for the cast to sing and dance to. The first big animated movie of the year is just a few weeks away. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is the long-awaited follow-up to the hit The LEGO Movie. There have been plenty of spinoffs since 2014 but now fans are finally reunited with Emmet, Wyldstyle, Batman, and the rest of the gang. So, was it worth the wait? Yes, for the most part, according to critics who took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the sequel.

The LEGO Movie 2 continues the adventures of Emmet (Chris Pratt), who's still his same old cheery self even as the world has descending into a post-apocalyptic wasteland because of a war with the Duplo aliens. The sequel always had a lot to live up to because of how much people love the original movie. According to CinemaBlend's own Sean O'Connell, the sequel is still funny, but doesn't quite match up to that first film.

While the first LEGO Movie was initially seen as a branded cash grab, it quickly surprised people with how funny, unique, and heartwarming it was. Audiences loved it and it went on to become a box office smash.

The general vibe from critics seems to be that while the sequel is still very enjoyable, it never really surpasses the original. One critic praised the animation, but felt that the movie went on for a bit too long.

It was always going to be tough for The LEGO Movie 2 to feel better than the original. There is the argument that it doesn't have to be "better" to be good, so it may be up to each individual person to determine how much they measure the sequel against the first movie.

Of course, there are those who have nothing but praise for the animated sequel. One critic gushed about the movie. He even went as far as to say that it was the first movie of 2019 that he really loved...which isn't that amazing considering it's still January.

So, The LEGO Movie 2 is still a very funny and heartwarming experience that may feel a little bit like we've seen this already. All things considered that's not too shabby, and I'm still excited to get a chance to see this thing for myself.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is directed by Mike Mitchell with Chris Miller and Phil Lord (the directors of the first film) returning as producers and writers. The cast of the film is still just as stacked as the last one with Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Charlie Day, Alison Brie, and Nick Offerman returning. New additions to the cast include Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz and Maya Rudolph.

The LEGO Movie 2 arrives in theaters on February 8, 2019. To learn more about the sequel, here's what we know so far.

LEGO MOVIE 2 is solid, endlessly inventive in the VFX department, and contains a few excellent third-degree burns thrown in the direction of fandom, but it feels a smidge too long and doesn't quite deliver as much as the first one. Still, I'd probably watch another one.
