Tom Cruise Wrote Alec Baldwin's Final Mission: Impossible Line, Which Was Literally Phoned In

SPOILER ALERT: The following article contains spoilers for Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

Mission: Impossible is all about Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt, but the franchise has built up a number of supporting players to help Ethan accomplish his missions. One such character is IMF secretary Alan Hunley, played by Alec Baldwin. Hunley is basically Ethan's boss, but that relationship was tragically cut short when Hunley met his end in Mission: Impossible - Fallout. It was an emotional scene, and not only did Cruise write Hunley's final line, but Baldwin recorded it on his iPhone and literally phoned it into production.

In Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Ethan Hunt and his team must track down stolen plutonium while being watched by the CIA after a mission goes awry. There are lots of twists and turns involved, with some classic trickery thrown in for good measure, but not everything runs smoothly for Ethan. His team suffers a casualty in the form of the death of Alan Hunley. As Ethan knells closer, Hunley whispers his final words, "Go." Ethan then takes off for a lengthy and epic chase across London to catch Hunley's killer.

It's a pretty sweet final line to go out on, as Hunley tells Ethan to go to work, and the line was actually Tom Cruise's idea. In the audio commentary for the Fallout digital and Blu-ray release (via the Hollywood Reporter), Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie give tons of behind-the-scenes details about the making of the film. One of these tidbits is that Cruise came up with Hunley's final line.

Apparently, this idea came a bit later in production, and Alec Baldwin had to record the line on his iPhone and then send it to Christopher McQuarrie for inclusion in the final cut. Whatever works! Fun fact: while filming this scene, Tom Cruise couldn't walk that particular day, and Baldwin was overdue for double hip replacement surgery, so they had to film the scene with minimal movement from both.

You wouldn't be able to tell by watching the final cut, but Fallout had a rough production. The film only had 33 pages of script before it started shooting, so the story evolved throughout production. Filming also had to take a multi-week hiatus after Tom Cruise broke his ankle in a stunt. It wasn't always the smoothest production, but the result is a phenomenal action film that elevates every stunt.

The home release of Mision: Impossible - Fallout is packed with special features and includes three different full-length commentaries. The extras also include a deleted-scenes montage and isolated score track. The digital release is already available, and you can find the Blu-ray in stores on December 4. The Biggest Difference Between Joss Whedon And The Russos, According To Elizabeth Olsen

Needless to say, there will be spoilers in this article, so stop reading now if you want to go into Avengers: Infinity War knowing nothing.

By the time Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters, there will be three people who can say they directed an Avengers movie: Joe and Anthony Russo, and Joss Whedon (who directed two of them). So when CinemaBlend traveled to Atlanta to visit the set of the Russo Brothers' pending blockbuster, one of the topics of conversation led to the differences in the approaches to the superhero ensemble thrillers. In a conversation with Infinity War co-stars Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen, the two of them explained to us:

Elizabeth Olsen: The biggest difference is that Joss wrote everything. When he writes them, he plays every single character in, like, a cabin, and he does the fighting sequences as much as he can and then he writes it. I think the main difference is that the Russos delegate, and they trust everything that they've delegated things to. Not saying Joss didn't, but that's a lot of pressure to be a director and then go home to also do rewrites for the next week. So I think it's just as it gets bigger, things become more specific to different departments, and I think it allows maybe even a freedom within the dialogue sometimes... Not saying that one's better than the other, because Joss knows these characters better than maybe each one of the individuals do, because he lives it and breathes it, and the Russos at the beginning of filming are like, 'You're in control of your character. If there are things you think we missed, please participate, please say.'Paul Bettany: They really want you to be a collaborator, and it's great. There's a huge upside for that. For them [the Russos], when you're dealing with so many characters and actors, to have two of them, it's brilliant because you can play one off against the other.

While on the set of Avengers: Infinity War, we were able to see how the Russo brothers collaborate in scenes with their ensemble of super-powered beings (and actors). We caught a scene where Chris Evans' Captain America and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow lead a team of Avengers -- including a wounded Vision (Paul Bettany) -- to Wakanda to seek aid following an attack. It was fun seeing how Joe Russo would coach certain actors, and Anthony would work with crew, and then they'd switch roles in between takes. Overall, it definitely sounds like a different experience than some of the Avengers-oriented actors were used to.

We know that working on the Avengers movie burned Joss Whedon out, as he said as much during the press tour for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Perhaps having two Russos will help the siblings delegate, and get through Infinity War and the untitled Avengers 4, which is due in theaters next summer. For now, you can catch Avengers: Infinity War when it hits theaters next month.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Director James Gunn Responds To Stan Lee Abuse Rumors

It's been a difficult year or so for the legendary Stan Lee. Marvel's prolific writer and creator of many beloved characters has had a variety of personal, financial, and health concerns, and it doesn't look like the drama is stopping anytime soon. Rumors have swirled claiming that the 95 year old icon had actually been suffering from elder abuse at the hands of both his primary caretaker and possibly family. Lee has denied these allegations, but various folks in the comic book community certainly seem concerned. In fact, even Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has taken to social media to give Lee his full support. Take a look below.

While James Gunn didn't necessarily accuse anyone of elder abuse, he made it clear that he and others are concerned for Stan Lee, and are willing to help if he ever needs it. While Lee himself has denied the rumors, the world is paying extra attention to Marvel's prolific creator.

Stan Lee has a special place in all Marvel fans' hearts, including the various directors who work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Lee has made a cameo in almost every Marvel movie to date, so a ton of directors have worked with the beloved comic icon. James Gunn is just one of many people who seemed concerned for Stan Lee's well being, in the wake of his myriad scandalous rumors. Kevin Smith also took to social media to lend his support and share that he too would be happy to help the legend if he needed it.

The allegations of elder abuse come from a recent expose in THR, which alleged that Lee was being taken advantage of and abused by his daughter J.C. Lee and his primary caretaker Keya Morgan, and in attempt to gain control over his assets. It's a harrowing tale, and one that Lee has strongly denied in the past few days.

Stan Lee's finances have had quite a few threats over the past few months. Just a month ago we reported that Lee had been robbed of a whopping $1.4 million in cash that mysterious disappeared from his private residence, and was also robbed of $850,000 and $300,000 in different recent robberies. Additionally, a comic book store recently sold some copies of Black Panther that were allegedly stamped using Stan Lee's own blood.

Aside from Stan Lee's fiscal woes, he's also had some health issues in the recent past. He recently had a battle with pneumonia, which can be very dangerous for a man as old as Lee. He also recently became a widower, as his wife of 70 years Joan Lee died last year at the age of 93.

While Lee's attitude and creativity has inspired generations of fans, he's certainly going through a rough patch.Hopefully the truth of Stan Lee's condition will be revealed soon, and he'll have someone to advocate for his best interest.
