It's a good time to be a Star Wars fan. With Disney no in charge of the iconic property, there is a wealth of new content being produced, expanding the galaxy far, far away. While standalone films like Solo and Rian Johnson's upcoming trilogy are exciting prospects, the hardcore fans are most interested in the current trilogy, which continues the Skywalker saga. Star Wars: The Last Jedi did just that, while also subverting fan expectations and throwing some major twists the fandom's way. Perhaps the most controversial was Luke Skywalker's apparent death after his confrontation with Kylo Ren, and now Mark Hamill has offered his hilarious perspective on Luke's fate.
I refuse to believe that he's gone. My theory is he just teleported to somewhere else and left his robe behind. He teleported to a nudist colony, that's what I'm hoping.
Despite Luke seemingly perishing in an identical way to his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mark Hamill is choosing a sunnier perspective. He'd like to believe Luke simply teleported to a new destination... in the buff. Carrie Fisher did always say that there's no underwear in space.
Mark Hamill's comments to BBC are sure to delight the generations of Star Wars fans out there. While Luke passed away after exhausting his Force strength during the conflict on Crait, Hamill is going to send his signature character to a happier place. After all, Luke's fate was one of the most controversial aspects of The Last Jedi.
Rian Johnson's work in The Last Jedi purposefully took sharp left turns from what fans were expecting. While the community was happy to see Luke becoming the master and training Rey in the ways of The Force, they were eager for the franchise's hero get involved in the main action of the film. Ultimately he refused to join Rey and Chewie on the Falcon, before having a change of heart and using Force Projection to change the battle on Crait. While his "duel" with Kylo was epic at first, they didn't actually clash lightsabers. And after getting the Resistance to safety and inspiring the movement to live on, he vanished without a trace.
Many fans were upset to find that Luke Skywalker was killed, similar to the way Han got the chop in The Force Awakens. And with Carrie Fisher unfortunately passing away before filming on Episode IX to begin, the fans likely won't ever get the proper goodbye to the character. In the wake of Fisher's death, many fans are hoping that Luke will actually reappear in the next sequel as a Force Ghost. Since Yoda popped up in The Last Jedi, it certainly seems appropriate.

Ron Howard Joining Solo Apparently Wasn't As Dramatic As Some Thought
The story of how directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were fired from Solo: A Star Wars Story and replaced by Ron Howard as a last minute directorial swap is going to become an infamous footnote in the history of both the Disney owned franchise and Hollywood filmmaking in general. But because the Star Wars franchise is so regulated and well staffed, the director switch happened pretty seamlessly. Who would know better than frequent Ron Howard collaborator and Solo co-star Paul Bettany? He made the following remarks:
You always come on to a film set at different times and in different moments and it felt very normal and the cast was very welcoming. Ron has a very steady hand. You needed that --- the ship had been sailing without a captain for a minute. But that can also be overstated. There are lots of people that make movies. It's not just the director. There are really strong producers on those films and you'll have a 2nd unit running with a 2nd unit director. I think the whole thing has been less dramatic and traumatic for everyone than it may appear to have been in the press.
There was quite a big reaction to the news that previous directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were being fired by Star Wars czar Kathleen Kennedy. The announcement was a pretty shocking surprise, and things got even more interesting with the hiring of Ron Howard. When the dust settled, some thought the whole scenario looked like the new kids were being kicked out, only for the establishment was installing one of its own. While from the outside it seemed like the Solo set was in chaos, Paul Bettany feels that nothing of the sort was present during the film's shoot.
Paul Bettany's thoughts should be accompanied with the caveat, that much like Ron Howard, the Avengers: Infinity War actor was a last minute addition to correct the course of the film. Originally, Michael K. Williams was playing Dryden Vos, but unfortunately he couldn't return for reshoots to his Solo: A Star Wars Story role post directorial replacement. Yet even with this exception, Paul Bettany's comments to Deadline help illuminate that time on the Solo set.
Directors aren't the only people who make a movie happen. At the same time, communication problems with the collaborators or a lack of vision could also end a movie before it begins. Like him or not, Ron Howard is a proven personality that knows how to play well with others, while keeping a production's engines purring and driving towards completion.
As a result, Solo: A Star Wars Story, much like its predecessor Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, benefited from a fresh set of eyes, albeit at a more crucial phase of production. You can see the end product for yourself, as the film is currently in theaters now.
They have shot the bulk of the movie already. I can't imagine that Ron Howard is going to go in and top-to-bottom restructure the movie. Most years, the greatest intrigue surrounding the Oscar ceremony is about who will win and who will lose the night's biggest prizes. Not this year though, as just finding a host for the ceremony has proven insurmountable. One person who has no interest in taking the job is former host Chris Rock. The comedian made his thoughts on the matter quite clear, saying:

Chris Rock's comments at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards dinner, as reported by Variety, leave no wiggle room for the comedian to slide into the hosting gig. In his refusal, he immediately passed the buck to three-time Oscar host Steve Martin, offering the venerable comedian up as tribute to the ceremony, as if doing so would save him from having to do it.
It's funny how he jokingly treated the gig, as if it's a trap that is to be avoided and one that is so terrible that it is better to sacrifice one's friends than to have to endure. That pretty much tells you all you need to know about whether or not Chris Rock has even the slightest bit of interest in doing the Academy a solid favor by hosting.
It wouldn't be the first time Chris Rock has hosted the Oscars either, as he previously led the ceremony in 2005 and 2016. So he would have been an obvious and natural choice as a proven past host of the ceremony. His adamant refusal does kind of make you wonder if he was asked to do it.
Maybe his past experiences informed his desire to never take on the thankless job again. Although at the NYFCC Awards, Chris Rock also mentioned that now he wouldn't be allowed to say something really offensive and funny, indicating that the perceived restrictions on his act are at least part of what would make taking the job now unappealing. And given the difficulty in finding a host, he may not be alone in that sentiment.
The reason that Chris Rock was delivering these jokes and nominating Steve Martin is because the 91st Academy Awards are without a host. Kevin Hart was briefly set for the job before dropping out due to controversy surrounding past tweets and jokes. Since that happened, there has been a question mark of who will replace The Upside star or if he will return after seemingly dancing around the idea.
But despite Ellen DeGeneres hoping he would, Kevin Hart is now in the Chris Rock camp of 'not gonna happen.' The Oscars now appear to be moving forward without a host at all and will instead proceed with a bunch of actors introducing segments, as well as an attempt to unite the Avengers for the ceremony.

There is little more important to a superhero's identity than their costume. Suits, masks and capes can represent a hero's origins, powers and what they stand for. Superhero costumes are also critically important for brand awareness and public relations purposes, so it's important to have a good one. In the universe of Disney and Pixar's The Incredibles, the supers enlist the services of Edna Mode for their costume needs. When the Parr family finally returns for The Incredibles 2 this summer, the legendary fashion designer will again be on hand to provide fashionable and functional attire. With a new movie comes a new suit, and you can get a glimpse of Elastigirl's new supersuit in the fun Edna Mode tribute video below.
What a fun bit of marketing on Disney's part. Edna Mode was one of the standout characters in the beloved original film, and this is a great way to reintroduce the eccentric designer to audiences. This YouTube tribute video also introduces us to a new suit Elastigirl, a.k.a. Helen Parr, will be donning in Incredibles 2. Instead of her usual red and black costume, it looks like Elastigirl will be trying out a different look, one that she describes as 'dark and angsty'. The new suit is accented with red, but is mostly shades of silver, black and grey. But this suit was apparently not an Edna Mode original; it is actually from another designer, and Edna Mode looks none too happy about it. At least it doesn't have a cape. It will be interesting to see why Elastigirl gets a supersuit from another designer, a story point that will likely provide some hilarious outrage from Edna Mode.
Elastigirl getting a new suit that is 'dark and angsty' is a fun little detail, but it also goes deeper than that. The Incredibles did offer some meta commentary on superhero tropes, and this could certainly be categorized as such. Taking a dark and gritty approach has certainly been the tendency among some studios when adapting comic book properties and this has been reflected in dark, neutral costumes that eschew the brightly colored outfits of the comics. It is funny to see The Incredibles touching on this, as films like Marvel's are actually becoming more colorful and comic-booky.
It is cool to see Elastigirl getting a new costume since we always like to see our superheroes upgrade their costumes from film to film. I imagine in this film, the new costume may be a part of her becoming the main super in the family fighting villainy, as Mr. Incredible will be taking on the bulk of the family duties, like staying at home to raise an increasingly powerful Jack-Jack. Incredibles 2 picks up right where the first film left off on June 15.
