One Star Wars: The Last Jedi Scene That Mark Hamill Can't Watch

Mark Hamill has a lot of feelings regarding Star Wars: The Last Jedi which he has talked about at length. However, his feelings about one particular scene in the film are so strong that he can't watch it. That scene, as you can probably guess, is the moment in the film where Luke Skywalker says goodbye to his sister Leia. In the movie, it's Luke who is saying farewell, but following the death of Carrie Fisher, Hamill admits that the moment is too much for him, at least for right now. According to Hamill...

I can't watch that scene. It's just, you know, takes me out of the movie completely. I'll get over it, but she'll be forever missed and she's irreplaceable.

Carrie Fisher's death, which followed the filming of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but was prior to the movie's release, meant that the moviegoing experience was going to be an emotional one for a lot of fans. While no changes were made to the finished film in order to give Leia a "goodbye" moment, there are a couple of points which, just by happenstance, work very well to give fans an emotional farewell. The greatest of these is when Luke and Leia are finally reunited. Luke appears on Crait at the point when the Resistance needs him most. Before Luke goes out to face Kylo Ren, he takes a moment with his sister, he apologizes for what has happened to her son, and gives her a kiss on the head.

There were certainly some wet eyes in movie theaters at that moment, given the meta-context of the situation. People watching the film again at home now are probably getting emotional all over again. Of course, while some of us just felt like we knew Carrie Fisher, people like Mark Hamill actually did know her, and called her friend. It's not surprising the actor tells ET he has trouble watching that scene even now.

He's also right that Carrie Fisher will be forever missed. The Star Wars franchise promises to keep going into the future which means that Princess Leia will always be a character of importance to pop culture. Whatever way Star Wars: Episode IX comes up with to explain Leia's absence is likely to feel incomplete, and the fact that we all know she was supposed to be there is going to leave a hole in that movie that will never be filled. We'll always wonder what would have happened if she'd been there.

Someday Mark Hamill will be able to watch Luke say goodbye to Leia, and someday we'll all watch it without it hurting quite so much. Today is not that day.

What's The Best Die Hard Sequel?

What's The Best Die Hard Sequel?

It would be very hard for me to count how many times we have argued over the Die Hard franchise in the CinemaBlend offices. There are watercooler topics -- conversations that we regurgitate every other year -- and then there is the raging Die Hard debate. It goes like this: Some in the office feel that the best sequel in the Die Hard franchise is the third movie, John McTiernan's Die Hard with a Vengeance. It has even been suggested that With A Vengeance might be better than the original Die Hard, to claim the title of "Supreme Die Hard Movie."

This is blasphemy.

But we have had the conversation so many times, I want to open it up to the CinemaBlend readers, so you can hammer this out in the comments section. The headline defines our parameters. We are not trying to debate the best Die Hard movie. It's the first movie. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just plain wrong.

But the debate over the sequels rages on. Personally, I'm a Die Hard 2: Die Harder guy. Here's why: I think a Die Hard movie is defined by a cramped space. It's confined to an office building, or -- in the case of Renny Harlin's bone-crunching sequel -- a busy airport on Christmas Eve. The Christmas setting helps, but I think the moment With A Vengeance opens up the playing field to all of Manhattan (and, later, Canada), it stops being a true Die Hard movie.

Also, Die Hard 2 has a component that I find to be crucial. John McClane (Bruce Willis) needs to be the right guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. This box is checked in Die Harder, but is NOT in With a Vengeance. In fact, to make matters worse, McClane is dragged into the action in the third movie, and never really goes through the hoops to stop Simon because he actually wants to. In the first two movies, McClane fights hard to stop the bad guys for his own personal reasons... and because he believes it's the right thing to do. Never once in Vengeance do I believe that McClane is stepping up to act because he thinks he's doing the right thing. He actually resists it every step of the way. That's not My John McClane (trademark). That's just Bruce Willis in another routine buddy cop thriller.

To that end, I'd almost suggest that the fourth movie, Live Free or Die Hard, feels more like a traditional Die Hard movie than its immediate predecessor. It's McClane being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's McClane standing up for what's right. The presence of Justin Long prevents me from ever considering Live Free as the best Die Hard sequel, but it's far better than we could have hoped.

And A Good Day To Die Hard is far worse that we could have imagined. We debated this on the ReelBlend podcast recently, if you want to hear that full conversation. It was eye-opening!

So, vote in the poll. Stoke the fans of our office debate flames. Tell us which Die Hard sequel you think is superior, and why! Yippee kai yay, CinemaBlend readers. Dive in, and be nice to each other.

You know what the best Die Hard is. You know what the worst is. Before anyone else is ever allowed to make a Die Hard sequel, that should watch this one on a loop and understand just why it
The Best (and Worst) of 'Die Hard': The Franchise Ranked

Die Hard 2 is the best if you ignore that it's essentially the same script as the first one. With a Vengeance expands the scope as far as it can realistically go imo, and connects to the first one in a way that makes sense and plausibly drags John McClane back into the action.

Die Hard: ranking the movies in order of quality | Den of Geek

The film's success created the Die Hard franchise, which includes four sequels, a number of video games, and a comic book, and later in 2017 was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Die Hard has been named one of the best action and Christmas-themed films ever made.

The Die Hard series is an American action film series that originated with Roderick Thorp's novel Nothing Lasts Forever. All five films revolve around the character of John McClane (portrayed by Bruce Willis), a New York City/Los Angeles police detective who continually finds himself in the middle of violent crises and intrigues where he is the only hope against disaster.
Die Hard - Wikipedia

Die Hard With A Vengeance is generally considered by most fans to be the best sequel in the series, primarily because it references the events of the first, so Die Hard 6 will likely try to capitalize on that idea yet again. We will just have to wait and see if the decision pays off.

Clint Eastwood's The Mule Trailer Is Super Tense

Clint Eastwood's The Mule Trailer Is Super Tense

These days, multiple Oscar winner Clint Eastwood is doing a lot more directing and not much acting. The last time Clint Eastwood starred in a film was all the way back in 2012 in Trouble with the Curve. That changes later this year, though, when Clint Eastwood steps in front of the camera for his next directorial effort, The Mule, where he stars as a man in his eighties who becomes a drug mule for a Mexican cartel. The first trailer for the film has been released and it teases an emotional performance from Clint Eastwood in what looks to be a super tense film. Check out the trailer for The Mule below.

Interestingly, there is another film out right now called The Old Man & the Gun, starring Robert Redford, that is also about an old man committing crimes, and it looks absolutely nothing like what we see here from Clint Eastwood's The Mule. That film looks like a charming romp while The Mule looks like a dark nail-biter. The trailer here is incredibly tense with a slow boil feel that ratchets up the tension with each successive scene, from the sweaty-palmed nervousness of the interaction with the cop to the dangerous dealings with the cartel to the alarm at seeing Bradley Cooper's FBI agent literally right behind Clint Eastwood's drug mule.

The danger is palpable for Clint Eastwood's Earl Stone as he finds himself in way over his head, eluding the authorities and dealing with very dangerous people. This doesn't look to be a situation where Clint Eastwood's character is a cold 80-year-old badass either. Based on the trailer and the narration, this looks to be an emotional performance for the actor as a character with real regret and sadness in his life as he stares down the barrel towards the end of it. It's those moments that deal with his family that makes this film especially interesting and should add emotional weight to the criminal elements.

As you can tell from the trailer, Clint Eastwood's World War II vet and horticulturist doesn't know what exactly he's driving, at least not at first. He becomes a drug mule for a Mexican cartel and he winds up being pretty good at it, which puts him on the radar of Bradley Cooper's FBI agent Colin Bates. Like Walter White before him, Earl Stone looks to be doing the wrong things for the right reasons and before he knows it, he may find himself on the wrong side of the law and the cartel, putting him in terrible danger with no good way out.

Clint Eastwood's latest directorial effort reunites the actor-director with his Gran Torino writer Nick Schenk, who also wrote The Mule. Clint Eastwood seems to have a preference for using true stories for his films in recent years, and that is the case again here. The Mule is inspired by the true story of 90-year-old Leo Sharp, who became a drug mule for the Sinaloa cartel. His story was told in a New York Times story which you can read ahead of seeing the movie adaptation.

This movie looks like a compelling crime drama and something a little bit different than what we've seen from Clint Eastwood's films of late. It is also exciting to see him back in front of the camera in a role that seems ideal for him. The Mule stars Clint Eastwood, Taissa Farmiga, Bradley Cooper, Michael Pea and Laurence Fishburne, and it hits theaters on December 14. For all of the movies you can look forward to the rest of this year, check out our release schedule.

Ralph Breaks The Internet Reviews: What CinemaBlend Thought Of The Wreck-It Ralph Sequel

Ralph Breaks The Internet Reviews: What CinemaBlend Thought Of The Wreck-It Ralph Sequel

A theatrical sequel to an animated Disney movie is a rare thing. In fact, it's only happened once before. Twice if you count Fantasia 2000. Ralph Breaks the Internet brings back the video game characters of Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz and sends them to explore the world of the internet. How does the sequel stack up to the original? The official CinemaBlend review gave the new movie four out of five stars and our own Eric Eisenberg felt that, while it may not be quite as good as the original Wreck-It Ralph, it was still a great time spent with great characters.

The narrative doesn't quite have the same tight structure/organization that the first film did, doing a lot more bouncing around from place to place road movie-style, but it remains solid on the immense strength of its character development.

As with the best of Disney's animated films, the movie isn't simply "for kids" as it deals with some fairly serious topics that the youngest viewers might not understand on first viewing, but their parents certainly will. The setting of the film is a bight, shiny new playground with the physical representation of the internet built to look like a massive technological city, with every name you know from Google to Pinterest represented as a building. But the movie isn't about that, it's about Ralph and Vanellope, and their relationship, and that's where most here would agree the movie shines, though we disagree about just how much.

Not everybody at CinemaBlend fell in love with Ralph Breaks the Internet. Managing Director Sean O'Connell feels the sequel really suffers in comparison to the original. He doesn't feel the new movie is bad, just disappointing.

Man, I wish I liked Ralph Break The Internet more than I actually do. As a huge fan of the original, I appreciated more time in the presence of Ralph and Vanellope. Wreck-it Ralph was such an original, inventive and sentimental story, and it actually felt like the sequel had the germ of a perfect idea -- sending the engaging franchise leads into the vast Internet. So what happened? The creativity is missing on Ralph Breaks the Internet, as the mission to retrieve Vanellope's steering wheel from eBay felt forced and thin. And the product placement throughout the story wasn't Meta, it was tacky. The laughs and heart are dialed back here, so while Breaks isn't a bad movie (by any stretch), it drastically pales in comparison to its immediate predecessor.

While Sean didn't feel that Raph Breaks the Intenet was a worthy sequel, with everything in the film feeling less than Wreck-It Ralph. His opinion is not universal. CinemaBlend project manager Cody Beck actually felt the sequel exceeded the original, thanks, in part, to a continuous stream of laugh moments and references to both Disney and internet culture.

Ralph Breaks The Internet is an even better journey into the Wreck-It Ralph universe than its predecessor. It's full of laughs for all ages and is not shy about poking fun at past Disney films and archetypes. Plus bonus jokes and easter eggs for avid Disney fans or anyone who has witnessed the evolution of the internet.

At the heart of Ralph Breaks the Internet is a story of friendship. Many fell in love with the story of Ralph and Vanellope. It's the reason the sequel exists in the first place, but CinemaBlend News Director Jessica Rawden felt that ultimately the sequel's constant focus on the brands of the internet doesn't do that relationship any favors.

Gamers will still find plenty of the fun nods present in Wreck-It Ralph in its follow-up Ralph Breaks The Internet, but as the story moves into the world wide web, the continual branding somewhat tarnishes the satisfying friendship story between Ralph and Vanellope. Stick around for the post-credits, though. They're a blast.

As the resident CinemaBlend Disney expert and also the Games editor, it would seem fairly obvious that the original Wreck-It Ralph was a particularly special film for me. In the end, I have to say I really enjoyed the sequel, and if it doesn't reach the level of the best Disney films, that's only because the best Disney films, like Wreck-It Ralph, have set a pretty high bar.

Ralph Breaks the Internet isn't quite as good as the first, though that might be only because there's now an expectation of greatness. It's funny, heartwarming, and I'm going to have to see it again just to catch all the Disney Princess jokes that I missed due to audience laughter.

It's certainly true that the "branding" that is present all over the film is a bit overdone, but ultimately that's just window dressing. Almost none of it is actually important to the film. What is important is Ralph and Vanellope and the ultimate message the movie is trying to convey. When that message takes center stage, Ralph Breaks the Internet is as good as the original, as good as Zootopia, as good as anytime Disney has had something important to say. However, Ralph Breaks the Internet feels like a movie of two halves, and the first half is a zany road movie that takes a bit too long to get to its ultimate goal, which is the second half with the important things to say.

Also, while the fourth wall adjacent portion of the movie that sends Vanellope among Disney's Princesses has been part of the marketing, there's luckily a lot more than has been shown in the trailers, and it's all hilarious. It's also not simply there for strictly punchline reasons, as the film takes a serious look at its own legacy and takes its licks where necessary regarding the parts of Disney history that maybe haven't aged well.

In the end, it feels like most of just arguing over exactly what degree of quality Ralph Breaks the Internet actually has. Nobody is calling it a bad movie. It seems likely that most everybody will enjoy the time they spent with it. In the end, the only question will be whether you like it or love it.

About Ralph Breaks the Internet Wreck It Ralph 2 2018: Taking place six years after saving the arcade from Turbo's vengeance, the Sugar Rush arcade cabinet has broken, forcing Ralph and Vanellope to travel to the Internet via the newly-installed Wi-Fi router in Litwak's Arcade to retrieve the piece capable of saving the game.
