Harry Potter Fans Can't Stop Joking About The Creepy Dobby Lookalike In Viral Video

You may have noticed that Dobby has been trending all weekend. The Harry Potter character would probably tear up with humility, or bang his head against something, feeling he was unworthy or somehow let Harry down. Instead, he's trending because a clip has gone viral, showing a creature of some kind that looks a lot like Dobby.

Whatever nonsense prank/stunt/alien brought this on, Twitter is having a field day with it -- from Kreacher jokes to other Harry Potter references. It's keeping the magic alive for fans, while simultaneously creeping them the bleep out.

It all apparently started with a post on Facebook:

The Harry Potter film series ran from 2001 to 2011. The franchise is still going with the Fantastic Beasts movies, with Fantastic Beasts 3 set to arrive on November 12, 2021. J.K. Rowling has not been as active on Twitter as she used to be, which may be tied to fans mocking her sexuality info dumps. However, it's possible she did subtly return to Twitter to honor the annual tradition of using the Battle of Hogwarts anniversary to apologize for killing a character.

Why Kathryn Bigelow Should Direct Bond 25

The Bond franchise is building to a climax next year, with Daniel Craig potentially stepping down as the suave superspy following the debut of Bond 25. However, as excited as many fans are about the next installment in the series, it recently hit a setback with the departure of 28 Days Later's Danny Boyle from behind the camera. Now, the movie may be pressing pause to figure out which filmmaker will step in and take the franchise in a fresh direction. Yet, I'd argue the proposed story for Bond 25 seems tailor-made for Kathryn Bigelow to step in and work her magic.

The first thing worth mentioning is that the Bond franchise (along with other blockbuster series) has been pitched to Kathryn Bigelow below, specifically by Sony head honcho Amy Pascal. Addressing these opportunities to take on AAA blockbuster movies, the Zero Dark Thirty director opened up to Variety last year and noted she's currently more interested in films that appeal to her sense of journalism than pure entertainment. The director said:

Those opportunities are out there, and I'm grateful. I'm just more drawn to a journalistic aspect of film. That opens up very specific avenues as opposed to more comforting avenues. It's a responsibility I'm excited to pursue, whereas something that has less content is less compelling to me.

That's what makes Danny Boyle's exit from Bond 25 feel like such a unique opportunity for Kathryn Bigelow. Though the film is still in development, and we don't know too much about it yet, some details that have surfaced in the wake of Boyle's departure have suggested that Bond 25 have suggested a story that leans into current headlines, with recent reports noting that the proposed story will focus on the "modern-day Cold War." With a real-life conflict serving as the backdrop of the newest installment in the 007 mythology, this could very well become the premise to pique Kathryn Bigelow's interest.

With all of this said, I also want to note the fact that a Bond film is right up Kathryn Bigelow's alley from a pure filmmaking point of view. With her work on Point Break back in the 1990s, she showed that she could stylistically do gritty action. Just look at the now famous chase scene from that classic heist film, below!

Moreover, with films like The Hurt Locker and Detroit she showed us what she could do in the realm of sustained tension. If she could combine all of those elements together with the budget and reputation that the Bond franchise is known for having (she has mostly worked on relatively-smaller films throughout her career) then we could have something very different and very enjoyable on our hands.

Then there's the simple fact that we've never had a female director on a James Bond movie. It's no secret that the franchise kind of needs a big shot of adrenaline in the wake of the polarizing Spectre, and a big part of that could involve bringing in a filmmaker with a decidedly distinct point of view. It's not that any of the male directors who have worked on recent Bond films like Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, or Spectre have done bad jobs, but bringing in fresh blood that's notably different from previous filmmakers could work wonders on the path to giving the franchise a new flavor.

Of course, tying all of this back together, the biggest key would be selling Kathryn Bigelow on the opportunity. There's no indication that she has been approached for Bond 25, and her previous statements about franchise filmmaking have made it clear that she would probably need to be convinced to take on the job. Having said all of that, the idea of doing a Bond movie based on the current state of Russia-America relations could be the plot point to bring her into the fold, and her talents as a Hollywood legend could make Bond 25 one to remember.

Like the Bond franchise itself, Fincher wants to do something different, while looking back to the past. He's just too perfect for it that he can't possibly do it. Damn him. At Sunday nights Oscars, it was a treat to see many of the Crazy Rich Asians cast members as they owned the red carpet with their looks, as well as presented some golden trophies with other big names as they celebrated their status as one of the most buzzy movies of 2018. It didnt matter much that Crazy Rich Asians didnt score a single Oscar nomination, they just looked thrilled to be there and having a blast.

Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu joined his breakout stars at the show, sitting second row at the Academy Awards and witness to highlights such as Bradley Cooper and Lady Gagas Shallow performance and Melissa McCarthys hilarious rabbit costume moment. After Hollywoods big night, Chu shared his first Oscars memory, which was a very different experience then this years. In his words:

The first Academy Awards I ever went to was in 2001 when I made a fake pass and snuck in. I watched the whole show from backstage. What an honor to be there with Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Henry Golding and Gemma Chan celebrating a year that we will never forget.

Impressive to both Jon M. Chu pulling off sneaking into the Oscars and his fame glow up since! In 2001, Chu witnessed Steve Martin as host, Julia Roberts and Russell Crowes Best Actor wins and Gladiator being awarded Best Picture. The filmmaker probably had an incredible time seeing the show backstage, with that Im not supposed to be here but am, ha! adrenaline pumping, which is comparatively completely different then walking the red carpet, sitting in the front seats and celebrating his blockbuster film.

Jon M. Chu shared the funny tidbit on his Instagram with a bunch of glamorous photos of him with some of the stars of Crazy Rich Asians, like Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Awkwafina. He and Michelle Yeoh also captured a selfie with The Favourites Best Actress Oscar winners Olivia Colman and Emma Stone, along with organizer-extraordinaire Marie Kondo. Take a look:

It looks like they had a grand ol time! Although many felt Crazy Rich Asians got snubbed for not being recognized by the Academy this year, amidst nods at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and such, but their presence at the show certainly helped represent the impact of the movie and the Academys interest in their work.

Constance Wu had the opportunity to present the Oscar for Best Original Song to the A Star is Born writers for Shallow alongside Black Panthers Chadwick Boseman. Awkwafina also presented with comedian John Mulaney for the Best Short Film categories. Michelle Yoeh joined Pharrell took the stage to present the Best Animated Feature. Henry Golding and Gemma Chan offered up carpet-stealing looks, especially with Chans dress, with pockets of cookies. Can they all just collectively host the show next year?
